Oconee County is a disc golfers mecca. With more disc golf courses,
4-18 Hole & 1-9 Hole, than any other county in South Carolina, if you feel the need to go disc golfing, Oconee is the place to do it. Below is a list of the current and planned disc golf courses here in Oconee County, SC.
Current Disc Golf Courses:
Seneca - Shaver Recreation Complex was established in 2004. It's an 18 hole course with nice elevation changes and tight, wooded fairways. This course hosts several tournaments a year including the Spring Sling, SC Doubles Championship and the Golden Corner Classic. Seven holes have multiple pin placements.
Tamassee - DAR School was established in 2008. It's a short 9 hole course. While it's on school property, the course is open for public play. It's in a over-grown field along the edge of some woods.
Walhalla - Sertoma Field was established in 2008. It's a short 18-hole course that wraps around a large field. The course makes its way into and out of the woods several times and a creek with several small waterfalls comes into play on five holes. Sertoma Field hosted two tournaments this past year. The first being the SC StateJuniors Championship and the second being the first day of the SC Doubles Championship.
Clemson - University Beach was established in 2009. While it has a Clemson address, the course is located on the Oconee County side of Lake Hartwell, just a few minutes from downtown Clemson and the University. It's the longest course in Oconee County with several holes being over 500 feet from the long tees. Most holes have multiple tees that are marked with flags.
Long Creek - Chattooga Belle Farm The 18-hole disc golf course features amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains with major elevation changes and water hazards. The holes are set through-out the farm and vineyard. The course is open to the public and cost is $3/game or $25/annual pass, unlimited games.
Planned courses include:
Chau Ram County Park on Highway 76 West of Westminster. Oconee County Council has already approved the 18 hole course. The City of Westminster is responsible for the funding of the course and is currently doing a fund raising campaign. Plans are for it to have multiple pins and at least two sets of tees per hole.
Shaver Recreation Complex might be getting a second course. If funding is approved in November 2009, the course will cover more than double the amount of property used for the current course at Shaver Recreation Complex. It will be considerably longer than anything else in the area.
Seneca River is a development on Lake Keowee North of Seneca on Highway 130. Plans were announced in the summer of 2009 for the development and it includes an 18 hole Disc Golf course. No timeline has been established for this development.
